                                   America's Top States for Business

North Carolina yet again holds on to the No. 5 spot in this year's America's Top States for Business ranking, with a score of 1,568 points out of a possible 2,500 in our study. The Tar Heel State's best category is Technology & Innovation, moving up one spot this year to No. 6 from No. 7. It also moved up two notches from No. 9 last year to No. 7, clinching another top 10 finish in the Workforce category.

Charlotte Was Just Named The #2 Metro In America For Economic Growth Potential

Business Facilities’ 13th Annual Rankings Report was just released yesterday and Charlotte was named the #2 metro in the country for Economic Growth Potential (cities with 300,000+ residents).

The announcement is significant economic development accolade for a city that’s desperately seeking to diversify its banking reliance. The ranking put a heavy focus on the tech industry, especially tech start-ups, tech manufacturing, and data-center growth.
The publication notes that “In today’s ultra-competitive market, the battle for future economic supremacy is being waged in classrooms and tech labs as well as across factory floors, often on virtual terrain you can’t explore on foot, like cyberspace.”

Charlotte’s #2 spot was largely based on Apple’s new $5 billion data center, Amazon’s new $375 million data-center wind farm, our city and state’s tax incentives for the tech industry, our infrastructure growth, and the abundant amount of raw land we still have available.

Massive New 1,020 Acre Development Bringing Over 3,000 Jobs To Iredell County

One of the largest mixed-use developments in the Charlotte region is about to be built just north of Lake Norman.

North Carolina state leaders unveiled plans for the new 1,020 acre Larkin development.
Senator Thom Tillis talked at length about what the project will mean for attracting new companies and industries to our state;
According to the official press release, the development will include over 5 million square feet of commercial space and 750,000 square feet of retail space, including dozens of new restaurants, shops, hotels, and other supporting amenities. It will also feature an estimated $37 million of infrastructure development, $20 million of which will be coming from the city of Statesville.
Larkin will become one of the largest concentrations of Class A industrial development in the entire state of North Carolina.

It’s now estimated that it will bring upwards of 3,400 new jobs to Iredell County.

Developers are hoping to break ground by the end of this year and officially open for business by the end of 2018.
